To the Next Gen !

Found this interesting link to Bill Gates speech which leaves a wonderful message to the next generation.

Probably these ’11 Tips’  are what each of you and me would like convey to our next generations.

Rule 1: Life is not fair – get used to it!

Rule 2: The world doesn’t care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won’t be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.

Rule 6: If you mess up, it’s not your parents’ fault, so don’t whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren’t as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent’s generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they’ll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn’t bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don’t get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.

Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you’ll end up working for one.

These are great words by a great person! I would love my kids too to keep these in mind and understand their importance.

Well…as I write this, I realise what if I am not around to tell them all that I want to now…so well, let me put it down here.. Sure someday he/she/they would get to this page and know what all I wish to tell them!!

So here go a few words for those lovely eyes through which I would love to see ‘my tomorrow’…

Dear Baby,

Mamma loves you 🙂 (yes that’s what I want you to know the first thing)

Dad loves you a lot ! 🙂 (I must make sure you know this, ‘coz he is not very good at saying it or expressing it so often, but his caring ways and responsiveness and his smile, everytime he looks at you would say it all)

Okay, with just 26 years of experience with life, I dont think I have a lot of advices to give you and I am sure you wont be interested in listening to much of them either.. So here are a few things life has taught me and I would like you to know them as well..

Love yourself ! I was taught this very early in my childhood and I follow it from the heart. It is important, because only after you learn to appreciate yourself, will you appreciate others for their good, better & best.

Love your body ! Stay Fit, like your dad. But, do not get obsessed with the looks and do not judge people on this parameter either.

Believe in God and Luck, but not blindly! Treat all religions with respect and celeberate all festivals, they are fun and each of them is there for a reason. And most importantly, remember believing in God is not following Him blindly or leaving everything upto Him or blaming Him for your mistakes…. God & Destiny both should be trusted but only till the levels of faith.

Be Yourself! Do not pretend. Be true and honest to everyone, especially the ones to whom you matter. Do not hurt them with a lie, or a false hope or anything that you are not.

Strive for Perfection, Give your best! Whatever you do, do well. A whole-hearted effort in anything you do is a must. Treat all your targets as important…and then nobody can hold you back from what you deserve the best.

Do not Compare! Over the years I have learnt that ‘Comparisons spoil everything’. I hated it when I was compared. So dont compare our family with theirs, your luck with his/her, or anything similar. Stay happy and find more ways to feel good.

Choose your friends and relations carefully! because these are few people you would be choosing from the millions and trillions of human beings you’ll come across. Make sure that you understand each other well and that you are there for each other, always.

Rise In Love!  Yes, dont fall in love, rise in love. Falling in love is easy, but learning to rise together holding hands is what would take your relation a long, eternal way.

Learning is a good habit, and so is Sharing! Learn whatever you want to- a new language, a new dance form, music, history, geography anything… There is no end to it. Nurture your hobbies. Learn as much as you can. And dont shy away from sharing it.

Read a lot! Reading is good. It is the best fodder for your brain. I love reading too.

Stand for what you believe! Even if it means standing alone. You must speak your mind. But, in the process, please do not disrespect the opinion of others.

Smile! It is precious, adds to your grace, and is definitely the most affordable gift you can give to the world.

Do what you like, but make sure you are smart enough to earn your living with it too! Else, earn a good living and pursue your interests. Because, money may not be everything, but for sure you need it to stay happy and alive in this world.

…………..just realised that having had thought of writing a few lines to you, I have already written a lot. So I save the rest for the next letter ‘coz I loved writing this to you 🙂

So, baby, stay happy, njoy every moment of life and keep smiling.

Lots of love
